Goodreads Blurb

Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the colour of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.

The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.

But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.

Thoughts

I loved Red Queen, so I did have high hopes for this book, I did love that the book starts exactly where Red Queen left off with Mare being taken out of the city with Cal.

I loved that there was more world building within this book. you got to see more of the country, and learn about the other residents. I also loved that you learn more about the resistance movement and its members.

I did find this slow going and found myself pushing to get into it, the story did start to pick up more by the end when you really got into the action of the story. I found the twist shocking, I never expected that coming. You do feel for Mare by the end of this book as she has been pushed to the end of  her rope and blames herself for the outcome of this book.

Even though this book did have some great bits it did fill like a filler book, but I will read the next book in the series as I still want to know what is going to happen to these characters.
