After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.

Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first.

But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

Thoughts

All I have to say about this is the hype was right, and this was a fantastic listen.

I found that this was easy to follow, even though it contained a load of science (that completely went over my head like Concorde), this was easily explained so that it was understandable, even to me (just don't expect me to experiment with any of this).
I actually found myself laughing out loud in the middle of the street when I was walking home, as there are parts that are absolutely hilarious, and I dare you NOT to laugh (you can't do it can you)

I loved Mark Watney, seriously if I am trapped on a planet I want this man on my team. Even though the odds were really stacked against him, he never gave up. Even when things went wrong, he found another way to survive, which is an admirable trait in a character.

I loved the narrator, I thought he was fantastic and really bought Watney to life, as well as bringing through the characters humour in the face on unsurmountable odds against him.

I found this to be a great audiobook, and I am glad I listened to this rather then read a physical copy, as this just made the story seem much more immersive.
