In a time when Shadowhunters are barely winning the fight against the forces of darkness, one battle will change the course of history forever. Welcome to the Infernal Devices trilogy, a stunning and dangerous prequel to the New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments series.

The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them...

Thoughts

For all the readers out there that don't know much about this book and it's sequels, this is a prequel series to The Mortal Instruments (It's entirely up to you how you read them but the end of the sixth book will make a little bit more sense if you finish this series before you hit that one).

I did find this slow going to start with as there is a lot of world building, (if you have already read some of The Mortal Instruments series then this does become a bit time consuming). Once the story moved away from that I really did start to get into this book.

I thought that even though it was slow going that the writing did flow well, everything linked together.

I loved the friendship between Will and Jem, and yes Will could be a bit prickly but when it came to Jem, there was nothing he wouldn't do for him.
I found Tessa to be a good character but I wasn't the biggest fan of the love triangle between Tessa, Will, and Jem. To me it was very cliché and just didn't really do anything for me.

Overall a good start to The Infernal Devices series (and yes I have already completed this series, so watch out for reviews on the rest of the books in the series)
