Love hurts...

Makani Young thought she'd left her dark past behind her in Hawaii, settling in with her grandmother in landlocked Nebraska. She's found new friends and has even started to fall for mysterious outsider Ollie Larsson. But her past isn't far behind.

Then, one by one, the students of Osborne Hugh begin to die in a series of gruesome murders, each with increasingly grotesque flair. As the terror grows closer and her feelings for Ollie intensify, Makani is forced to confront her own dark secrets.

Thoughts

The story focuses on Makani, a young girl from Hawaii, who is sent to live with her grandmother in Nebraska when students at her school start to be murdered.

I thought the premise of this was quite interesting and did remind me of the slasher flicks of the 90's (those were the movies I used to watch). So I thought I would pick this up for Halloween.

I did enjoy the book, I found the start slow going but I persevered and it started to get better as I got further in. I did find this book unpredictable in places (which is a good thing). I never guessed who the culprit was or who his next victim was going to be.

I did find myself liking Makani, but her backstory was just meh, (SPOILERS) she took the blame for everything that happened, even though it wasn't her fault. She should have got a slap on the wrist for what she did to her friend, but she became a scapegoat.

I really wanted to give Makani's mother a good slap, she was such a flake, she has this amazing child and she is such a bitch to her.

Overall it was a good book, and I liked it, it just didn't make me love it enough to give it 5 stars.
