1942. The fate of the world rests on a knife’s edge. And the soldiers who can tip the balance . . . are girls.

Set in an alternate World War II where young women are called up to fight alongside men, this is the story of Rio Richlin and her friends as they go into battle against Hitler’s forces.

But not everyone believes that they should be on the front lines. Now Rio and her friends must fight not only to survive, but to prove their courage and ingenuity. Because the fate of the world is in the hands of the soldier girls.

Thoughts

As it was November, and rememberance month I wanted to start reading some WW2 based novels, and I have had this on my bookshelf for ages. I thought it was finally time that I started reading this.

I loved the premise on the book, that the American Forces have allowed women to join during WW2, the book is carried by 3 strong woman that have been placed in a war zone and are now figuring out who they are in the grand scheme of things against the backdrop of war.

I found it hard to decide which characters I loved as the main three were fantastic, and so well written that it was tough just to choose one character.
Frangie for pushing to be a medic, when she is already ostracised for the colour of her skin.
Rio who is in the infantry and doesn't want to hurt other people but just wants to do her part.
Rainy who is fighting against males who think women should not be a part of intelligence gathering, and she just will not back down.

I found this so easy to read through and just found that the writing flowed so well, even though the chapters are the perspectives of the three main characters, you still knew where the story was going, and it didn't seem disjointed.

Overall a great read, and I now want to binge read the rest of the series.
